Core values
Our lessons and activities are aimed at helping our students to lay a strong foundation for the study or job of their choice. We give them all the support they need to develop themselves into independent, responsible and socially engaged adults. We endeavour to prepare them for a future in a globalised and fast-changing world.
Open-minded
The pupils of St. Nicolaas reflect the diversity of people you meet on the streets of Amsterdam. As an open Catholic school, we welcome students of all religions and cultural backgrounds.
Modern building
Our school is located on the Zuidas, the high-profile international business district in the south of Amsterdam. The generous use of glass in our spacious and modern building creates an open atmosphere with a positive work environment. We have a well-equipped theatre, music studios, a library and three sports halls. During breaks students can wander out into the beautiful Beatrix Park which borders our school.
Bilingual stream
Our junior school offers specialist streams that focus on sports as well as bilingual studies. In the latter pupils follow most of their lessons in English. During the rest of the classes and at our senior school, the language of instruction remains Dutch. The bilingual programme is therefore explicitly intended for Dutch-speaking children who want to improve their English. Students who already have an excellent command of the English language will find no challenge in this stream.
Internationalisation
Our senior school offers an international stream. This programme includes courses such as: double English language and literature (DELL); social studies; international activities; extended essay (PWS) and global career perspectives (LOB). We pay special attention to internationalisation through one-day trips, longer stays abroad and visits to the international businesses in the area. Our focus is mainly on Europe.
